The music of Lord of the Rings doesn’t get enough credit, and Otto’s rendition of Eowyn’s lament is heartbreakingly beautiful. Thankfully, it can be found in the extended editions, but for such a small and well-acted scene that so adds much to the atmosphere of the movie, it should've never been left on the cutting room floor. One big thing is they cut out Saruman's death in Return of the King which I found to be quite odd. The extended edition is good at fleshing out some more of the characters, building atmosphere, and features more action. Some of the best additions are scenes featuring Boromir and Faramir. 1.

My family loves Lord of the Rings, and we try to watch the three films around the holiday season each year. We were blazing through the Extended Editions on HBO Max, as they advertised having them, and yesterday we began Return of the King (Extended Edition). We watched about two hours yesterday and decided to watch the rest on New Year's (Today).

But, yes, extended editions all the way, the movies are much more complete. The theatrical cuts aren't bad of course, but it is weird going back after watching the extended editions so much. Three rings for the Elven-kings under the sky, seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone, nine for mortal men doomed to die Each sitting will be roughly 2hrs.
