I've searched here and online and I'm seeing a lot of people are having problems with the altimeter on their Fenix 5. When I first got the watch I went for a short walk and tracked it. Elevation was all over the place. So I've calibrated it and set it to altimeter mode. It seemed be be working when I looked at the widget. (reading around 75 / 80m)
So far I never had issues with a Fenix 1, Fenix 3 and Fenix 5 Plus, the distances are consistent and ant+ sensors (tempe, footpod, HRM) work fine. My last competition with warm-up and race in seperate activities (with ~10min in between) is a year ago (also without issues).
Let me begin by "thanking" Garmin Support Italy, for not replying at my email anymore. I've sent them an email, explaining the problems I have with my Fenix 5x Plus and they replied, telling me the procedure to reset my watch. Knowing it will not solve my problem, I did it anyway, worked fine for a couple of hours, but after that, SAME ISSUES!
Well like the previous poster, I talked to Garmin, and they deduced the barometric sensor was broken. They are doing a RMA for me. They provided a return shipping label and will send a replacement Fenix 5 (hopefully with a working barometric sensor). A bit of a drag since I had it only a month before it failed. Hopefully the new one doesn't fail.
My Fenix 5 plus also misses to count several stairs climbed per day. :(And that, although the altitude difference exceets 3m. I noticed, that my watch is ALWAYS refusing to count one particular stair. The stair has a total of 20 steps and changes direction by 180° in the middle.
