The Prague Christmas Markets are open daily from 30th November 2024 to 6th January 2025, including on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. The main Christmas markets are held at the Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square, in the heart of the city. The two squares are 5 minutes walk from each other.
Prague pulls you into its 1300 year old history. Walking up the hill or stairs to Prague Castle, the historical seat of Czech rulers and the majestic Saint Vitus Cathedral can leave you speechless (and out of breath).
The center of Prague is divided into two regions, Staré Mesto Prague Old Town on the eastern bank of the Vltava River with sights such as the Old Town Hall, Jewish Quarter, and the Astronomical Clock. Prague Castle with St. Vitus Cathedral, the Golden Lane, and the John Lennon Wall are in Prague Lesser Town on the western bank of the Vltava River.
Charles Bridge (Karluv Most) The first place in my Prague photo guide is the most famous bridge in town and central Europe – Charles Bridge. The visually stunning historic bridge connects the Old Town of Prague with the Mala Strana, and it’s the biggest symbol of the city thus presenting plenty of photo ops.
As the only means of crossing the river Vltava until 1841, Charles Bridge was the most important connection between Prague Castle and the city's Old Town and adjacent areas. This land connection made Prague important as a trade route between Eastern and Western Europe. The bridge is 516 metres (1,693 ft) long and nearly 10 metres (33 ft) wide.
